Spotlight on : Personal Grooming

Its no secret that first impressions count, so its up to you to ensure that the impression you make is the correct one.  Going out for dinner with friends, shopping in the local supermarket, meeting a work client or going for that important interview you need to look your best. See below for some quick and easy tips to ensure that you look your best.

 General Hygiene
I know its obvious but every morning before you take yourself off for the day to work , ensure that you shower, brush your teeth and apply deodorant ( arm pits and feet)  and put on fresh clothes and under garments. Don’t forget your skin,  apply a light Moisturizer it can be used to prevent the skin from becoming too dry or oily.

Hair
A good haircut can help to define your best features. Try wearing your hair as it naturally dries, or style it to enhance it's natural shape. Get your hair trimmed every six weeks to ensure you maintain your style.  This is an obvious I know but ensure you wash your hair at least twice a week; unkempt hair is a complete turn off for your employer. It’s just not great to be in the presence of a person with lank smelly greasy hair.

Nails

Keep your nails trimmed, clean and tidy. There are lots of videos on how to maintain your nails or you can do what a lot of women do and get a professional manicure every few weeks. Also Check this great piece on nail-care from Channel 4.

Skin Care
We’re not all blessed with super clear skin, but what we can do is try to avoid our skin getting worse.  There are many products out there that will help including makeup to help conceal but they’re not really getting to the root of the problem.

The best way I have found to obtain clear skin, is to drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruit/veg , avoid processed foods and exercise. Also make sure you apply sun screen when you are out and about and remove any makeup before going to bed.

Makeup
Try and keep your work makeup minimal, you are looking to enhance your features rather than draw attention to over bright and gordiy applied lip and eye makeup.

Here are a few basic tips to look chic and minimal.  Firstly apply a good primer, put bronzing powder, rather than face powder on as power can be quite drying and create unnecessary wrinkles, but don’t over do it remember minimal.   Then apply over the top a lolly pink on the apples of your cheeks for a fresh healthy look.  For your eyes , go for browns, taupe’s and light greys/pinks. For lipsticks try pinky brown type colours.

Check this great video for further tips on how to apply minimal makeup.

Work Attire

Finally make sure your clothes are clean and properly ironed. There should be no visible sweat stains on your outfits.
